10 Ways to Accent Your Log Cabin from the Inside Out

Your log cabin has so much charm and the right decor can bring out its best features. From the moment you step out of your car until you settle indoors, you can create that warm woodsy-chic feeling that attracted you to the style in the first place.

Consider these 10 decor ideas that can help to make a log cabin feel even more special indoors and outdoors.

  1. Fancy faucets
Whether you choose charming antique or shining steel faucets, these small touches get noticed because they are used all of the time. You want to select a style that matches the finishings in your bathroom or kitchen. For example, if you have brushed steel appliances, select a more modern metallic faucet.
  2. Modern lighting
Log cabins are naturally beautiful and a great way to make their best features shine is by adding hyper-modern lighting for contrast. Install geometric shaped chandeliers or polished steel sconces for a quick and easy decor upgrade that stands out.
  3. Artful Antiques
Log cabins may be the inspiration behind the rustic-chic home trend. Recently, designers have been repurposing old gardening tools, typewriters, and toys as artistic decor. Hang a few as art on a wall to add interest to a space. These decor touches can be useful as well. For instance, you can select antique iron rods to hold curtains or incandescent light bulbs to illuminate your dining area.
  4. Weave in natural materials
Continue the organic style of your log cabin with wool and cotton rugs, wall hangings, and throw blankets. You can bring a peaceful feeling to a space with neutral undyed tones or opt for pops of colour by finding a large woven art print for an empty wall or floor.
  5. Solid rocks
Add another element to your feng shui at home with stone feature walls. Extend the slate or brick beyond your fireplace mantle to fill the entire side of a room. In bathing areas, raw stone showers and sink basins naturally compliment the wood and water of the log cabin around them.
  6. Firepits and chimineas
Fireplaces inside log cabins are a natural match so why not continue that cozy ambiance outside? Firepits and chimineas (clay freestanding fireplaces) are easy to install and allow you to make use of your outdoor space beyond the summer season.
  7. Water features
Your log cabin blends into the environment with its wooden beams, adding water elements can bring that organic feeling to life. An easy addition is a decorative bird bath that will attract wildlife and music to your yard. Or, you can install a fountain or create a stream to allow the tranquility of flowing water to surround your home.
  8. Pergolas
These canopies provide shade in the summer and help to define an outdoor living area. Extend your log cabin’s charm by building one of these chic wooden structures over your patio. For an added natural effect, you can grow vines along the beams and watch them flower in the springtime.
  9. Hanging lanterns
Light the way from the driveway into your charming abode with the magical look of lanterns. Use them to brighten walkways and hang them on your patio for a more intimate ambiance at parties. Depending on your personal taste, there are string lights, Moroccan style lanterns, and even solar options available.
  10. Handcrafted address plaques
Artisans have been crafting, carving, and welding personalized signs for centuries. Some homeowners place an address plaque at the end of their driveway and others right on the home itself. Whether you select a carved wood sign to match your log cabin or a welded metal one that contrasts with it, you can make finding your home a beautiful experience right from the roadside.

When you start with a naturally beautiful log cabin, it’s easy to create enchanting spaces inside and out. A little bit of decor can compliment and contrast with the organic structure and bring out your own personal style.

3 Tips on Choosing the Perfect Carpet Color

Selecting a suitable carpet color for your home may sound easy. But there’s actually a lot more to consider than what you may first realize. So before you head to the carpet store, make sure you’ve read the following tips first.

3 Tips on Choosing the Perfect Carpet ColorPhoto by Brian Patrick Tagalog on Unsplash

What’s your lifestyle?

Your lifestyle and the way in which the carpeted room will be used are huge considerations in carpet color. A busy household with kids, pets and working parents doesn’t usually lend itself well to white carpets, which can show soiling more easily than other colors.

Keep in mind that very light and very dark colors show far more undesirable debris than mid-tones.

While a dark color may be great at hiding stains, it will show lint and dust more than other colors. A carpet that is neither too light nor too dark will be the best color for masking these issues. Source: TheSpruce

Get inspiration from within the room

The endless number of carpet and paint combinations can have you spinning in circles, but there are a couple of decorator tricks to help make the palette-picking process a little less dizzying. Turn to your artwork; if you have a beloved painting or print for the space, pull a more dominant color from it for the carpet and pick one of the picture’s background tones for the walls. This can bring the room together and let the artwork shine. If you plan to keep your sofa for a long time, use its color for finishing ideas. Look across the color wheel from your couch’s shade and use the opposing hue, such as orange across from blue or mauve across from yellow, for pleasant contrast. Then ground the space by choosing carpeting that’s similar to the walls or to the sofa but slightly darker. Source: HomeGuides.SFGate

Consider use of space

Do you want your carpet to brighten up a dark room or tone down a too-light space? Red is a perfect choice for darker family rooms, living rooms and hallways. It wears well and tends not to show stains as badly as some of the lighter colors. For rooms that have excessive sunlight, you will need to also think about fading, a problem that is more obvious with dark carpets. Source: ColorCombos

We can help you determine the perfect carpet for your home and we can also install it for you. Call us today!

The oldest documented house in the Philippines was built between 1675 to 1730 and is located in Barangay Parian, Cebu City, Philippines.

Considered to be one of the oldest residential houses in the Philippines, the Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House was built sometime between 1675 and 1700. It was originally owned by a Chinese merchant named Don Juan Yap and his wife, Doña Maria Florido.

The materials used for the construction of the Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House were coral stones that were glued together with egg whites. The roof is made of “Tisa” clay which weighs 1 kilogram in each piece. The wooden parts were made of “balayong” and “tugas” (molave) are considered to be the hardest wood of all time.

The Lock is a very simple wooden construction but it does the trick to secure the door.

What’s not normal in the new bike is that Werking molds the tubing in-house for its tube-to-tube construction, instead of outsourcing tubesets. 3 Spring Cleaning Tips for the Beginners

Deep cleaning your entire home sounds like a task that’s so tiring and time consuming, that it’s probably the reason why you’ve never done it before. It’s never too late to start making spring cleaning a yearly tradition. Do the following tips for sure-fire success on your first try:

Photo by Volha Flaxeco on Unsplash

Create a plan

Whether your place is tiny or massive, spring cleaning can be a challenge. Spring cleaning is about going beyond your usual dusting, mopping, vacuuming and scrubbing routine. And if you’ve never done it, how do you even know where to start? Like all big undertakings, it’s a good idea to make a plan. Yes, that means committing pen to paper. Or creating a spreadsheet, if that’s more your style.

Start by listing out every room of your house, without forgetting places like the utility room, laundry room, garage and closets. Think about tasks like cleaning the baseboards, the walls, the windows and window treatments, as well as moving and cleaning behind and under furniture (and the furniture itself). Basically, things that you probably don’t clean on a regular basis. If it helps you, walk through your house or apartment while making the list. Source: Home.HowStuffWorks

Gather all cleaning materials

The first step to starting and keeping a home or apartment clean is buying the right supplies. Basic checklist: an all-purpose cleaner, disinfecting wipes, rubber gloves, glass cleaner for showers and windows, carpet spot cleaner, microfiber cloths, a sponge, and a small duster. Then store all of your most-used supplies together in a container like a shower caddy or basket, so it’s easy to carry them around with you to any room in the house. Source: Vogue

Work smarter, not harder

Don’t scrub any more than necessary. Simple steps like soaking pots and pans before you scrub them, waiting for cleaning products to sit before you wipe down surfaces, and using the self-cleaning setting on your oven can save you tons of time. Source: Zillow

Do you have dirty or damaged carpet at home? Leave the task to us and we’ll make your carpet look as good as new in no time. Call us today!
