Logicworks Launches Industry First Out-of-the-Box Data Loss Prevention Service for AWS

New service uses machine learning to enforce compliance and protection of sensitive data

NEW YORK, Oct. 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Logicworks, a leading compliant cloud services provider, today released a data loss prevention (DLP) software solution that continuously monitors and protects sensitive data on Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3).  As a part of Logicworks’ cloud operations platform, Pulse, the service integrates Amazon Macie, serverless technology, and proprietary software to detect threats and enable swift remediation.

An industry first, Logicworks DLP provides an out-of-the-box solution for customers to prevent common AWS data loss scenarios. The service uses machine learning to detect and classify new patterns of content, going beyond the simple detection of medical records, credit card data, and social security numbers. The software then uses serverless technology to automatically protect at-risk data. Demonstrating the ability to prevent data loss is a key requirement for compliance with regulations like PCI-DSS, HIPAA, and HITRUST.

Using Amazon Macie, Logicworks DLP can scan massive volumes of Amazon S3 data, up to hundreds of PetaBytes. The scan locates sensitive data and determines the level of risk. Customers can set automated policies to protect this data, such as blocking public access and quarantining objects. CISOs and IT security managers can enforce their governance standards without in-depth AWS engineering skills or personnel. With Logicworks DLP, organizations greatly reduce the risk of employee error; no longer can a few wrong clicks result in the loss of millions of customer records and devastate a business’ reputation.

“Customers in highly regulated industries often find it prohibitively expensive and technically challenging to solve traditional problems like data loss prevention on the public cloud,” said Matthew Sharp, CISO, Logicworks. “Logicworks built its DLP service to automatically pre-configure the latest AWS tools for machine learning, data classification, and access control to protect customers from the most common and potentially damaging forms of data exposure.”

For more information concerning Logicworks DLP, please go to www.logicworks.com.

Verizon and Calix achieved speeds of 8 Gbps using NGPON2 technology

By deploying this technology, customers will experience multi-gigabit speeds

TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Customers nationwide can look forward to even greater bandwidth speeds and lower latency when accessing Verizon internet connections. Recently, Verizon and Calix, a global provider of cloud and software platforms, systems, and services used in next generation access networks, achieved consistent, symmetrical customer usable throughputs of 8 Gigabits per second on Verizon’s live network in Tampa, FL using NGPON2 technology on Calix’s AXOS® platform

To meet ever increasing subscriber demand for greater bandwidth and lower latency, Verizon is deploying a network architecture that will support a dramatic improvement in network performance and accelerate the delivery of new service offerings using NGPON2 standards. NGPON2 (Next-Generation Passive Optical Network 2) is the newest standard for Passive Optical Networks (fiber networks that don’t require active amplification over long distances due to signal loss).

NGPON2 standards upgrade the hardware and software in the Optical Line Terminals (OLT) at the end of fiber cables to provide faster speeds, lower latency, simplification of operations and increased automation in the fiber network.

“The speed and latency gains provided by integrating NGPON2 standards into our fiber network are only some of the benefits this cutting edge technology will provide,” said Lee Hicks, Vice President of Technology Development and Planning for Verizon.  “This new technology will also provide a greater degree of automation in our fiber network which will help us speed deployment of services to our customers, and will introduce a greater level of interoperability among network components which will lead to greater efficiencies.”

The recent demonstration in Florida included the AXOS Routing Protocol module (RPm) for Layer 3 and the AXOS Subscriber Management module (SMm) as well as the E9-2 Intelligent Edge System.

“The Calix AXOS Intelligent Access Edge Solution collapses the functions of subscriber management, aggregation and OLT into a single system, enabling service providers to move fast by automating and dramatically simplifying operations in their network,” said Michel Langlois, chief development officer from Calix. “In the face of ever-increasing subscriber demand, a simplified network is vital to delivering next-generation services.”

“We continue to work with innovators across the industry to move the industry forward and push towards widespread deployment of these NGPON2 standards,” said Hicks.  “This demonstration is another great step in providing the best available technology to our customers, which our customers have come to expect from Verizon.”

Calix Delivers AXOS Intelligent Access Edge, Enabling Service Providers to Simplify Network Architecture and Operations, Dramatically Reducing Total Cost of Ownership

New Advanced Routing Protocol Module for AXOS, works with current Subscriber Management Module and new aggregation line card to add Layer 3 services to existing Layer 2 networks

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Calix, Inc. (NYSE: CALX) today announced the AXOS Intelligent Access Edge solution, giving service providers the flexibility to bring Layer 3 functionality—including MPLS routed networking—to their new or existing Layer 2 access network, drastically simplifying their architectures and reducing total cost of ownership. The offering also includes a new line card, which enables service providers to aggregate their existing Layer 2 Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) while easily reaping the benefits of a collapsed Layer 3 Access network.

The AXOS Intelligent Access Edge Solution, which is comprised of the new Advanced Routing Protocol Module (ARm), the Routing Protocol Module (RPm), the Subscriber Management Module (SMm), as well as the E9-2 Intelligent Edge System gives service providers the option of performing routing functions in their access networks with the RPm or having a full MPLS routed network with the ARm. The new [[Aggregation Services Manager]] line card for Calix’s E9-2 Intelligent Edge System runs with the ARm, providing 64 10G ports in a single system, aggregating Layer 2 OLTs, and delivering the benefits of the Layer 3 Access network. The existing Layer 2 access network is then connected to the service provider’s edge network with multiple MPLS-capable 40G/100G uplink ports.

“The AXOS Intelligent Access Edge Solution with the new Advanced Routing Protocol Module has been designed specifically to allow service providers to instantly realize the simplicity and cost advantages of software defining their access networks without undergoing a complete replacement,” said Shane Eleniak, senior VP of platforms for Calix. “The efficiency advantage from consolidating subscriber and service related functions onto the access network not only reduces operational cost but speeds time to deploy new services—both of which are key to our customers, who are tasked with delivering increasingly complex next-generation services to their subscribers.”

As subscriber demands continue to increase, not only is bandwidth critical, but with new applications like virtual/augmented reality and high-capacity gaming, minimizing latency is vital as well. To meet these demands, existing architectures necessitate more network elements, which increases complexity and makes it difficult for service providers to keep up with these subscriber demands. Simplifying the network and reducing the number of elements while consolidating subscriber and service-related functions onto the access network edge is essential to enabling service providers to move fast and reduce cost.

“Collapsing network edge functions is an exciting step in the evolution of next generation open access ecosystems,” said David Tomalin, CTO of CityFibre. “Calix’s innovation and disruptive leadership in this space will enable wholesale network operators like us to optimize operating models and accelerate the introduction of new service-based functionality. I am looking forward to exploring the potential of the new AXOS Intelligent Access Edge solution as our partnership develops.”

“Service providers are transitioning their current legacy networks to the software defined networks of tomorrow, and there are many steps in this complex, daunting task to achieve the goals of service agility, operational simplicity, and automation,” said Michael Howard, executive research director, carrier networks for IHS Markit. “Calix is taking another step toward Software-Defined Access by enabling service providers to transition to a converged access-edge network architecture. We believe broadband network operators will see value in this approach to transformation as it retains existing layer 2 access network investment, adds in relevant edge routing capabilities, and provides an evolutionary path towards virtualization and SDN.”

For more information on the new Advanced Routing Protocol Module, Aggregation Services Manager line card, or other AXOS solutions, visit Calix online.

MEF Announces Industry’s First SD-WAN Service Specification

More than 30 service and technology providers have participated in MEF’s pioneering SD-WAN-related standardization, implementation, and certification activities

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — MEF18 – MEF is pleased to announce the availability of an approved draft technical specification for MEF members that, for the first time in the industry, defines an SD-WAN service and its various attributes. With strong support from service provider and technology provider members, MEF currently is on track to ratify and publicly release its MEF 3.0 SD-WAN Service Attributes and Service Definition standard in 1Q 2019. SD-WAN service standardization will enable a wide range of ecosystem stakeholders to use the same terminology when buying, selling, assessing, deploying, and delivering SD-WAN services. The SD-WAN service definition is a foundational step for accelerating sales, market adoption, and certification of MEF 3.0 SD-WAN services orchestrated across a global ecosystem of automated networks.

SD-WAN Service Standardization
SD-WAN service standardization is being conducted within the context of the MEF 3.0 Global Services Framework. It is part of a transformational initiative to standardize a complete family of dynamic Carrier Ethernet (CE), IP, Optical Transport, SD-WAN, security, and other virtualized services that will be orchestrated over programmable networks using LSO (Lifecycle Service Orchestration) APIs.

MEF’s SD-WAN service definition specification describes requirements for an application-aware, over-the-top WAN connectivity service that uses policies to determine how application flows are forwarded over multiple underlay networks irrespective of the underlying technologies.

“MEF’s groundbreaking work in standardizing an SD-WAN service addresses one of the biggest obstacles impacting SD-WAN service market growth,” said Nan Chen, President, MEF. “In a recent joint MEF and Vertical Systems Group survey of service providers worldwide, nearly 80% of respondents identified the lack of an industry-standard service definition as a significant challenge for service providers to offer or migrate to SD-WAN services. MEF’s SD-WAN service standardization will undoubtedly accelerate sales of SD-WAN products and services like MEF accomplished with Carrier Ethernet service standardization.”

Just as the industry has benefited from MEF standardization of CE services – which now exceed an estimated $50 billion in annual revenues globally – there are numerous potential benefits associated with a common SD-WAN service definition. These include, among other things:

  • Reducing market confusion about service components, core capabilities, and related concepts, thus saving valuable time given the scarce availability of skilled personnel.
  • Enabling service providers and technology providers to focus on providing a core set of common capabilities and then building on that core resulting in differentiated offerings.
  • Facilitating inclusion of SD-WAN services in standardized LSO architectures, thereby advancing efforts to orchestrate MEF 3.0 SD-WAN services across multiple providers.
  • Paving the way for creation and implementation of SD-WAN services certification, which will give users confidence that a service meets a fundamental set of requirements.

SD-WAN Implementation
MEF member companies are involved in multiple SD-WAN implementation-related initiatives that can be leveraged to provide feedback on standardization requirements and create software-oriented artifacts that can be used to accelerate efforts to orchestrate standardized SD-WAN services. These initiatives include the MEF 3.0 Multi-Vendor SD-WAN Implementation project, the MEF18 LSO Hackathon, and several SD-WAN Proof of Concept (PoC) demonstrations at MEF18.

The MEF18 LSO Hackathon is focused on developing and validating data models for SD-WAN services. This presents a unique opportunity for those involved in technical aspects of SD-WAN services and products to learn in a hands-on way about the latest SD-WAN service and LSO standardization work at MEF as well as the related API and YANG work at ONF and IETF.

Three MEF18 PoC demonstrations directly related to LSO-enabled orchestration of SD-WAN services include:

  • Zero Touch Services with Secure SD-WAN
  • Towards a Multi-Vendor Orchestrated SD-WAN – LSO-enabled Solution with Open Source Orchestrator and Container-based uCPEs
  • Instantiation and Delivery of SD-WAN over a Virtualized and Orchestrated Wholesale Carrier Ethernet Access Service.

MEF 3.0 SD-WAN Service Certification
MEF currently plans to introduce a pilot version of certification for MEF 3.0 SD-WAN services in the first half of 2019. This certification will test a set of service attributes and their behaviors defined in the upcoming SD-WAN standard and described in detail in the MEF 3.0 SD-WAN Service Certification Blueprint.

MEF Professional Certification
MEF released earlier this year the third in its series of Professional Certifications: MEF-SDN/NFV. This certification is an important tool for any company using or providing SD-WAN services to address the emerging and significant shortfall in skilled personnel familiar enough with SDN and NFV to meet the company’s SD-WAN requirements.

Key Participants in SD-WAN Service Standardization & Demonstrations
More than 30 service and technology providers have contributed to or supported the MEF SD-WAN service standardization and certification effort, participated in MEF 3.0 SD-WAN implementation work, and/or participated in the SD-WAN PoCs at MEF18. These companies include:

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — MEF18 — MEF is pleased to provide a progress update on the advancement of the MEF 3.0 Transformational Global Services Framework for defining, delivering, and certifying assured communications services orchestrated across a global ecosystem of automated networks. Since launching MEF 3.0 one year ago, MEF has made significant strides across all key elements of the framework, including: standardized services; LSO (Lifecycle Service Orchestration) APIs; services, technology, and professional certification; and community activities. Dozens of service providers, technology vendors, enterprises, and industry organizations have been involved in initiatives to accelerate adoption of MEF 3.0 services that provide an on-demand, cloud-centric experience with unprecedented user- and application-directed control over network resources and service capabilities.

“We are gathering at MEF18 to celebrate accomplishments on our journey to accelerate adoption of assured services across automated networks,” said Nan Chen, President, MEF. “We are especially pleased by the groundbreaking releases this week of the industry’s first SD-WAN service specification as well as LSO Sonata APIs that will enable, for the first time, automation of the potential $250+ billion market for MEF-defined services. Going forward, MEF is focused on enabling service providers to transform their services and networks, federate on a global basis, and certify their service offerings to a global standard.”

Standardized, Orchestrated Services
The planned MEF 3.0 service family includes dynamic SD-WAN, Carrier Ethernet, Optical Transport, IP, Security-as-a-Service, and other virtualized services that will be orchestrated over programmable networks using LSO APIs. MEF has advanced standardization work across each major type of connectivity service:

  • MEF 3.0 SD-WAN. Today, MEF announced the industry’s first SD-WAN service specification. MEF is on track to ratify and publicly release its MEF 3.0 SD-WAN Service Attributes and Service Definition standard in 1Q 2019. SD-WAN service standardization will enable ecosystem stakeholders to use the same terminology when buying, selling, assessing, deploying, and delivering SD-WAN services.

  • MEF 3.0 CE. In May, MEF enhanced its family of MEF 3.0 CE services by publishing a specification (MEF 62) that defines a new Managed Access E-Line Service with a specific set of management and Class of Service capabilities designed to accelerate service provisioning and simplify management of services that traverse multiple operators.

  • MEF 3.0 Optical Transport. In August, MEF published its first Optical Transport Services specification (MEF 63) for subscriber services that support Ethernet and Fibre Channel client protocols as well as SONET/SDH client protocols for legacy WAN services. This work paves the way for service providers to automate multi-vendor service offerings.

  • MEF 3.0 IP. In April, MEF published the Subscriber IP Service Attributes Technical Specification (MEF 61) as the first in a planned series of IP specifications to describe subscriber and operator IP services. This is an important step toward the goal of enabling orchestrated IP services.

LSO APIs
MEF’s LSO Reference Architecture guides development of standardized LSO APIs for end-to-end service orchestration across multiple providers and over multiple network technology domains. MEF has progressed initiatives for multiple LSO interface reference points throughout the past year and has published work related to two key reference points:

Services, Technology & Professional Certification
MEF has made the following progress related to MEF 3.0 certification programs:

  • LSO Sonata API Certification. This week, MEF announced the MEF 3.0 certification program for service providers and technology solution providers will be expanded on a pilot basis in 1Q 2019 to include cloud-based testing of LSO APIs, beginning with certification of LSO Sonata APIs for serviceability, product inventory, quoting, and ordering.

  • Certified Services & Technology Companies. MEF recently announced the first service and technology providers to achieve MEF 3.0 certification and is on track to soon recognize others.

  • MEF Certified Professionals. MEF has expanded its professional certification program to include MEF-SDN/NFV and MEF Network Foundation certifications in addition to the popular MEF Carrier Ethernet Certified Professional (MEF-CECP) certification.

Community Activities
MEF has been working with many leading service and technology providers, open source projects, standards associations, and enterprises to realize a shared vision of dynamic services orchestrated across automated networks. Two key illustrations of recent progress include:

  • MEF18 Proof of Concept (PoC) Showcase. More than 50 service providers and technology vendors are collaborating in 19 PoC demonstrations at MEF18. This year’s PoCs fall into six broad categories and exemplify the many aspects of MEF 3.0 services and the transformation required to deliver them successfully: automated commercial interaction; service fulfillment and activation; service assurance; multi-layer services; SD-WAN; and Universal CPE.

  • Enterprise Advisory Council. Today, MEF launched its Enterprise Advisory Council (EAC) to support digital transformation across the MEF 3.0 ecosystem. Consisting of multi-national enterprises, the EAC will provide end-user perspectives on how MEF 3.0 services can and will address the need for agility, simplicity, and assurance.
